Divergence between price and momentum is an early indicator that a price move may be weakening and nearing its end. In a healthy trend, new price highs or lows should be matched by increasing momentum. When new price highs or lows are accompanied by declining momentum, this is known as “divergence”.
Bullish divergence is when prices are making new lows with declining momentum and bearish divergence is when prices are making new highs and momentum is declining. Both indicate that the trend is weakening and likely to stall or reverse.
